What we put on a roof, and what we fix
Two panel types, the details that keep them working, and repairs. Most of the questions people ask us are about the details.

Standing-seam roofs
Concealed clips, raised seams and no screws through the face of the panel. The usual choice for a house, and it moves with the temperature without opening a hole.
Clips hold the panel, so there are no exposed fasteners in the field
Snow guards clamp to the seam without a hole
Gauge, paint and trim are each written on the estimate

Exposed-fastener panel
Corrugated or ribbed panel screwed through the face. The straightforward choice for a barn, shop, shed or outbuilding, and the one with the lowest cost.
Screws and washers are the part to check as years go by
Good for long, simple roofs
We seal and re-seat fasteners on older roofs

Snow guards and retention
A layout of guards and rails, drawn on the estimate, so snow comes off where it can't hurt anything.
Over doors, walkways and lower roofs
Above meters, tanks and stock gates
Clamp-on for seams, screwed and sealed for exposed fastener

Repair and re-sealing
Backed-out screws, worn washers, flashing that has pulled away and rust at a cut edge. Most leaks on a metal roof are small, and we fix them as small.
We find the leak before we quote the fix
Repair first, and we tell you when it isn't enough

Questions about the work
Can you put metal over my old roof?
Sometimes. Code and the condition of the deck decide. Two or more layers, a wet deck or a worn-out one means the old roof comes off. We tell you which it is at the visit and put it in writing.
Do I need a permit?
Often, for a full replacement. It depends on your town or county. We tell you what yours asks for and handle the paperwork when it is ours to handle, and the permit is a line on the estimate.
How do I know my roof needs replacing and not repair?
Look in the attic for daylight, stains or wet insulation, and from the ground for loose panels, rust at the edges or flashing that has pulled away. On a metal roof, backed-out screws and worn washers are the usual leak and they are a repair. We say which it is, and we would rather re-seal than sell a roof you don't need.
Can a metal roof still get ice dams?
Yes. Ice dams come from heat escaping into the attic, not from the roofing. Air sealing, insulation and ventilation do the work, and we look at them at the visit.
Not sure which one you need?
Tell us what the building is and what is on it now. We will say which rung makes sense, and why.
